Professor Dawn Skorczewski
Professor Dawn Skorczewski was visiting Senior Fulbright Professor of American Culture during the first semester of the academic year 2013-2014. She is Professor of English and Director of University Writing at Brandeis University, where she teaches courses on American Literature, 20th century poetry, Psychoanalysis, Trauma Studies, and the Holocaust. She is the author of Teaching One Moment at a Time: Disruption and Repair in the Classroom (University of Massachussetts Press, 2005), and An Accident of Hope: Anne Sexton’s Therapy Tapes (Routledge 2012), as well as numerous articles about teaching, psychoanalysis, and literature. At VU University she taught the Bachelor course “Introduction to American Studies” in period 1 and a new Master course titled “The Holocaust in American Literature and Film” in the second period.
Professor Jahan Ramazani
Professor Jahan Ramazani, University Professor and Edgar F. Shannon Professor at the University of Virginia, is the author of A Transnational Poetics (2009) and Poetry and Its Others (2014), and one of the world’s leading expert on how poetry has developed in the 20th and 21st century. In June 2015 he visited VU University to offer a Graduate Lecture for the Graduate School of the Humanities, to lead an Expert Meeting for the Dutch Research School for Literary Studies, and to give advice on the progress of some of our Ph.D. students, including Amrita Das and Lonneke Geerlings during a Seminar session led by Professor Diederik Oostdijk.
