“It is unbelievable how much I learnt during my semester abroad in Perth, Australia. Not only about the country and the courses I took, but also about myself, my views and the world as a global unity. Everyone always seems to mindlessly repeat those sentences, but there’s actually a deep wisdom hidden behind the cliché.
I think part of why it has been so tremendously educational is that I chose a country which I wouldn’t have travelled to otherwise. I don’t like heat and I don’t like swimming (let alone surfing), but in Australia I was forced to experience those things in unknown intensity. I still don’t like them, but it did make my stay abroad unique. I think stepping out of your comfort zone greatly broadens your mind, and what better way to leave your comfort zone shambling in the dust that you kick up than living at the other side of the world for half a year?”
